SIDEBAR Boy's family seeks to change his name after chaos in Turkey

Istanbul (dpa) - The parents of Fethullah, a 10-year-old boy in southern Turkey, are seeking to change their son‘s name, which he shares with the man blamed for last week‘s failed military coup. The Turkish government has accused US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen of instigating the coup. The cleric, who heads a large global Islamic movement, was a onetime ally of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and was held in high esteem by many Turkish conservatives. This is now changing. The father of the young boy, Emir Sonmez, wants to disassociate his family completely from the cleric, even as Gulen denies having any involvement in the botched putsch."At the time, we thought he was a man of Islam, but now the situation has changed. I would like to change my son‘s name," he told the Dogan news agency outside a courthouse in Gaziantep, where he also referred to Gulen as a "traitor."The boy, who would like his new name to be Kayhan Ali, said he fears mockery and derision with his current name, and that he does not want to have the same name as "the leader of a terrorist organization."
