Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - Chen Aisen earned gold on the men‘s 10-metre platform Saturday, securing China the seventh out of the eight diving gold medals that were awarded in Rio de Janeiro.Chen, who won two of the seven medals at these Summer Olympics, was extremely happy but nevertheless wary of telling his family back home about his latest success."I called my mother before, when I won the synchronized event, but she said: ‘It‘s so late. Why are you calling? I was already asleep,‘" he said. With 2.5 backflips and 2.5 twists in his sixth and last dive, he earned the top score of 108.00 of the final round, for a total of 585.30 points.Mexico‘s German Sanchez won the silver with 532.70 points.US diver David Boudia was unable to repeat his 2012 London gold, but he took home the bronze medal with 525.25 points.Chen‘s compatriot and double world champion Qiu Bo was seen as the most likely winner, but one poor 47.50-point dive marred his overall final result."I have nothing to be upset about because it‘s the Olympic Games and it‘s either him or me who gets the gold medal," Qiu said, referring to Chen. "It‘s all the same because we are all Chinese."Britain‘s world and European champion Tom Daley dropped out already in the semi-final with the lowest score among the contenders, even though he had led in the preliminary."I‘m kind of in shock right now because I know that I could win that gold medal, and I think right now I‘m the only one that could challenge the Chinese for that gold medal," said Daley, who has a bronze medal from the synchronized event in Rio.Britain‘s Jack Laugher and Chris Mears had prevented China from collecting a perfect eight-victory haul by winning gold on the men‘s synchronized 3m springboard in Rio.
