Eurasian integration major boost to Armenia’s economy – official

Armenia’s accession the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) overall had a positive impact on the country’s economy, according to Karine Minasyan, a minister of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

Speaking to Tert.am, the official said she observes a significant increase in the exports since Armenia's entry into the bloc in January 2015. “Armenia’s exports to the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union have increased by 70%. That’s the effect of membership. And that’s only the first benefit we reaped thanks to lifting the customs borders and eliminating the obstacles,” she said, adding that she expects even a further increase in the export volumes.

Asked whether the economic situation would be worse if not the Eurasian integration, Minasyan said, “Membership is an additional factor. We have repeatedly stated that integration is an extra element … So I wouldn’t consider the issue from that perspective. What I would focus on is that membership made the economy better.”
