Armenian premier, Italian envoy discuss Gyumri development plan
Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan on Saturday received Italy’s honorary council, Antonio Montalto, to discuss joint initiatives aimed at the development of Armenia’s second largest city, reports the Government’s press service.
The projects are implemented by the Friends of Gyumri foundation in an effort to re-establish the historical-cultural traditions in the city by creating jobs and raising knowledge of the local arts and crafts.
Briefing the chief of cabinet on the foundation’s activities, Mr Montalto highlighted particularly their collaboration with the Government as an important step towards realizing the objectives.
Hailing the initiatives, Prime Minister Karapetyan said that the Armenian Government also has undertaken steps towards promoting the city’s cultural development. He said they are now amid completing the renovation of an old nature reserve and rebuilding historically valuable old streets in the city.
The premier said he expects the historical-cultural projects to boost also the tourism in the cit.
The sides agreed to discuss future cooperation plans in the course of Mr Karapetyan’s upcoming visit to Gyumri.
