Koblenz, Germany (dpa) - Looking west the day after US President Donald Trump‘s inauguration, European right-wing party leaders who had gathered for a convention in Germany on Saturday said they liked what they saw.Trump has showed "the way out of a dead-end" said Frauke Petry, co-head of the eurosceptic Alternative for Germany Party. "That‘s exactly how we want to do it in Europe."Hers was only one note in a general chorus of praise for a man who came out of nowhere in the last year to take the US presidency based on the strength of anti-migrant rhetoric and strong calls for nationalism.Trump‘s ascendancy to the top job in US politics has put extra wind in the sails of a movement that was already sailing along quite nicely across Europe, as far-right and anti-migrant parties gain strength amid lingering worries about refugees trying to reach Europe.Also speaking in the German city of Koblenz, Marine Le Pen, head of France‘s far-right National Front, said she liked many of the points Trump made in his inaugural address.Trump‘s speech made multiple references to the broken-down state of the United States amid calls for "America First" policies and greater investments.The points matched up "with those that we make," she said.She also seemed relaxed about growing bonds between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, a leader after whom she thinks Trump models himself.Not to be outdone, Geert Wilders of the Dutch Party for Freedom went a step further, speaking of a "patriotic spring."
