One dead, 14 injured in truck crash

One person died and 14 others were injured when the driver of a construction truck apparently lost control and the truck overturned in Pietermaritzburg.

Pietermaritzburg – One person died and 14 others were injured when the driver of a construction truck apparently lost control and the truck overturned on Murray Road in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday morning, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

“The construction vehicle was transporting 15 passengers,” ER24 spokesman Pieter Rossouw said in a statement.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found that besides the one deceased patient, all the other injuries that were sustained ranged from minor to moderate.”

ER24 paramedics treated and transported eight patients to Northdale Hospital for further treatment. The other patients were transported by other services to nearby hospitals.

The cause of the accident was unknown but local authorities were on scene for investigation, he said.
