YEREVAN, 28 June. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan congratulated Alain Berset on his election as Secretary General of the Council of Europe and invited him to visit Yerevan.

In his congratulatory message, Pashinyan wished Alain Berset success in the exercise of his powers and noted that the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe celebrated this year is accompanied by complex geopolitical challenges in Europe and beyond, the press service of the Armenian government reported.nbsp;nbsp;

In these difficult times, when democracy and human rights are severely tested, there is a need more than ever for a strong Council of Europe, in order to contribute to the establishment of lasting peace and guaranteeing universal values, Pashinyan noted.nbsp;nbsp;

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that during his tenure as Secretary General, Berset will direct his efforts to ensuring the priority of fundamental values and principles and the protection of human rights throughout the territory of the Council of Europe for the benefit of efficient functioning of the convention system and enhancing the role of the Council of Europe.

Pashinyan reiterated that in this responsible mission, Alain Berset can count on the full support of him personally and the Government of the Republic of Armenia.
