Allegri: Juventus' fatigue showed against Empoli

Massimiliano Allegri has conceded his Juventus side showed fatigue in a hard-fought 2-1 Serie A win over Empoli. Cristiano Ronaldo's double – the second of which was a sublime strike from long range – secured a comeback win for Juve to move the Serie A champions eight points clear at the top. Juve have now won 12 of their last 13 matches in all competitions, and Allegri feels the Bianconeri's performance was typical of a team struggling with the effects of a congested fixture list. "A team that... Читать дальше...

Puel concerned for Amartey after horror injury

Claude Puel says his focus is on Daniel Amartey after the defender suffered a horror injury in the closing stages of Leicester City's last-gasp 1-1 Premier League draw with West Ham on Saturday. The Foxes looked to be heading for a third consecutive league defeat after Fabian Balbuena's first-half opener, but Leicester – aided by Mark Noble's dismissal before the interval – snatched a late point when Wilfred Ndidi's 89th-minute strike was deflected in. Amartey landed awkwardly on his ankle while... Читать дальше...

Muller: Bayern Munich in no position to complain

Thomas Muller has claimed Bayern Munich are not in a position to be picky over the manner of their victories after a tightly-contested 2-1 win over Mainz. Thiago Alcantara got the decisive goal for Bayern, as the Bundesliga champions made it three wins from three in all competitions to ease the pressure on Niko Kovac. Leon Goretzka had volleyed the visitors ahead, but Jean-Paul Boetius responded for Mainz after the restart after a lapse in concentration from Bayern's defence. And although acknowledging... It happened very quickly - Ronaldo excited to re-watch stunning winner

Cristiano Ronaldo confessed the trademark thunderbolt which gave Juventus a precious win at Empoli happened so quickly even he could not remember it. The 33-year-old rifled a swerving shot into the top left corner to complete both his 16-minute brace and Juve's recovery in the testing 2-1 victory. His first was a coolly-taken penalty that cancelled out Francesco Caputo's classy 28th-minute opener as the champions relied on their star forward to temporarily move seven points clear in Serie A. Leicester City 1 West Ham 1: Ndidi leveller denies 10-man Hammers

Wilfred Ndidi's late deflected strike salvaged a 1-1 Premier League draw for Leicester City against 10-man West Ham at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. Fabian Balbuena had earlier handed the Hammers a first-half lead, scoring his first goal for the club following his move from Corinthians with a close-range finish. Their cause was made more difficult in the 38th minute when Mark Noble received a straight red card for raking his studs down Ndidi's calf. Manuel Pellegrini's side looked like they would withstand Noble's moment of madness... Читать дальше...

Benitez sees Southampton point as a positive for Newcastle

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez took a point at Southampton as a positive after a drab goalless draw at St Mary's on Saturday. The Magpies failed to produce a single shot on target as their wait for a first win of the season stretched into November, though the stalemate was enough to move them off the bottom on goal difference. Newcastle have failed to win in any of their opening 10 league games for the first time since the 1898-99 season, but Benitez expressed satisfaction with his side's... Читать дальше...

Gracia: Watford have the best squad in the Premier League

Watford have the best squad depth in the Premier League and Will Hughes should receive an England call-up, according to head coach Javi Gracia. A 3-0 demolition of Huddersfield Town at Vicarage Road on Saturday moved Gracia's men within two points of the Premier League's top four. Roberto Pereyra, Gerard Deulofeu and Isaac Success were all on target as Watford collected another three points following a 2-0 triumph at Wolves last weekend. And although Gracia will not get carried away with his team's fine form... Читать дальше...

Empoli 1 Juventus 2: Brilliant Ronaldo leads turnaround with brace

Cristiano Ronaldo fired Juventus seven points clear in Serie A with a match-winning brace in a hard-earned 2-1 victory at Empoli on Saturday. Klopp not getting carried away in intense title race

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool will not get carried away despite moving back to the top of the Premier League with a 4-1 win over Cardiff City. Goals from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane (two) and Xherdan Shaqiri claimed the points at Anfield on Saturday, putting Liverpool three points clear of Manchester City, who visit Tottenham on Monday. But while Klopp was thrilled with Liverpool's points total of 26 from their opening 10 games, the former Borussia Dortmund boss is wary that a glut of teams are hot on their heels. Читать дальше...

West Brom's promotion hopes were dealt another blow as they let slip the lead in a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers, and Birmingham City's impressive form continued with a 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday. A defiant Gennaro Gattuso insisted he can still turn things around at AC Milan following back-to-back losses. The pressure has increased on the 40-year-old Milan coach after Sunday's 1-0 derby defeat to Inter was followed by a home loss to Real Betis in the Europa League four days later. Milan will kick off against Sampdoria on Sunday in the bottom half of the Serie A table and a third loss in eight days could leave them even further adrift of the European qualification places. Klopp delighted with 'exceptional' Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has hailed Liverpool's "exceptional" start after the Reds moved to the top of the Premier League with a 4-1 victory over Cardiff City. Despite Mohamed Salah's early goal, Liverpool struggled to shut out their visitors completely – Callum Paterson pulling one back in the 77th minute after Sadio Mane had put Klopp's side two up. But Liverpool rallied from conceding a first goal at home in the league since February, Xherdan Shaqiri putting the result beyond doubt before Mane added further gloss. Читать дальше...

Mainz 1 Bayern Munich 2: Thiago strike gets champions off the hook

Thiago Alcantara got the winner as Bayern Munich continued to ease the pressure on coach Niko Kovac with a 2-1 Bundesliga win at Mainz on Saturday. Leon Goretzka's volley put the visitors ahead after a sustained period of attacking pressure but Bayern's defensive frailties were exposed by a fast Mainz break and a Jean-Paul Boetius goal just after half-time. Ancelotti can be Napoli's missing ingredient, says Koulibaly

Key defender Kalidou Koulibaly believes Carlo Ancelotti could infuse Napoli with the winning mentality absent from last season's unsuccessful title tilt. Napoli appeared to have a strong chance of snatching last season's Scudetto when Koulibaly headed a late winner in Turin to swing the momentum away from Juventus with four matches remaining. Dropped points against Fiorentina and Torino in the following two games quickly ended the challenge as Maurizio Sarri's tenure finished in deflating fashion. Читать дальше...

Tardy Dembele in Clasico contention for Barcelona

Ernesto Valverde has confirmed Ousmane Dembele arrived late for Barcelona's Champions League win over Inter in midweek, but insists this will not influence his selection for El Clasico. Barca saw off Inter 2-0, with Dembele an unused substitute despite Lionel Messi being sidelined with a broken arm. Messi is ruled out once more for Real Madrid's visit to Camp Nou on Sunday, although the reshuffled front three of Luis Suarez, Rafinha and Philippe Coutinho are favourites to start after Valverde named a 19-man squad. Muller recalled to Bayern Munich starting XI

Niko Kovac recalled forward Thomas Muller to the starting XI for Bayern Munich's Bundesliga visit to Mainz on Saturday. The Germany international was an unused substitute in Bayern's 3-1 win over Wolfsburg last weekend and enjoyed just a 15-minute cameo in the Champions League victory over AEK Athens in midweek. While Kovac opted to bring Muller back into the fold, there was still no room in the starting XI for Jerome Boateng, who was named to start on the substitutes' bench for the third consecutive game. Stones: Manchester City can break 100-point mark

Manchester City's John Stones believes the Premier League champions are capable of improving on their tally of 100 points from last season. City cruised to an emphatic title win last season, dropping points in just six games and scoring 106 goals in a record-breaking campaign. Pep Guardiola's side have shown no signs of letting that form dip, and currently top the league courtesy of an improved goal difference over Liverpool. And Stones, who played a crucial role in City's triumphs last term before... Читать дальше...

Valverde: Pigs were flying in El Clasico before Messi and Ronaldo!

Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde believes El Clasico will lack none of its famous intensity in the absence of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid visit Camp Nou on Sunday for a first showdown with their bitter rivals since Ronaldo departed to Juventus in July. A broken arm has put fellow five-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi on the sidelines, meaning the fixture will take place without either star forward for the first time since December 2007. But Valverde, who represented Barcelona as a player between 1988 and 1990... Читать дальше...

Mourinho's United reign not unsuccessful - Neville

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes criticism of Jose Mourinho is undeserved and that the Portuguese should be given more credit for his record at Old Trafford. United are 10th in the Premier League and face Everton on Sunday, when they will again look to kickstart an underwhelming start to the season.
