Pope to make first public appearance Sunday since hospitalisation

The 88-year-old pontiff has been battling pneumonia in both lungs after being hospitalised. "Pope Francis intends to wave and offer a blessing from the Agostino Gemelli hospital in Rome after Angelus prayers," The Vatican said Saturday. The pope has missed the Angelus prayers for five straight weeks for the first time since his election in March 2013. Concerns grow over detained Burundian journalist Sandra Muhoza

Israel launches retaliatory strikes on Lebanon amid ceasefire

Israel struck Lebanon on Saturday in retaliation for rockets targeting Israel, in the heaviest exchange of fire since the ceasefire. Earlier, rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel for the second time since December, sparking concern about whether the fragile ceasefire with the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah would hold. Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu's arrest sparks mass protests

US revokes legal status for 500,000 immigrants

President Donald Trump has pledged to carry out the largest deportation campaign in US history and curb immigration, mainly from Latin American nations. The order affects around 532,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans who came to the United States under a scheme launched in October 2022 by Trump's predecessor Joe Biden and expanded in January the following year.
