Lithium miner says market fears waning as funding hunt resumes

After hitting heavy resistance last year in its search to raise capital, junior miner Bacanora Lithium Plc believes the time is right to resume its hunt. In July, the London-based company pulled a $100-million share sale designed to finance construction of Mexico’s first lithium mine. Now Bacanora’s chief executive officer says investor appetite is back following months of uncertainty over prices as well as fears of oversupply for the mineral essential to power electric vehicle batteries.

Miner Vale quashed dam safety audit efforts before Brazil disaster -prosecutor

Executives at Vale SA , the world's largest iron ore miner, quashed efforts by Brazilian authorities to audit one of the company's mining dams months before it collapsed and killed over 300 people, a state prosecutor was quoted as saying by news website G1 on Wednesday. William Garcia, a prosecutor in Minas Gerais where the January disaster occurred, told G1 his office had filed subpoenas with Vale last June to review safety documents regarding Vale's dam.

Vale halts operations at another mine in Minas after test

Brazilian mining company Vale SA said on Wednesday it halted operations at its Alegria iron ore mine in Minas Gerais state after a "stress test" in the structures failed to guarantee stability. Vale said the results of the test were "inconclusive," so it decided to suspend operations while it conducts additional evaluation. It said the impact to iron ore production is seen at 10-million tonnes per year.

Pure Alumina buys Canadian player

ASX-listed Pure Alumina has made a C$25.75-million offer for privately held Polar Sapphire, which would allow the Australian company to fast-track its plans to start the commercial production of a 99.99% high purity alumina (HPA) in 2019. Pure Alumina is offering C$13.75-million worth of company shares and a further C$12-million in cash.

Lucapa nearly doubles Lulo resource

Diamond miner Lucapa Diamond Company has reported a 90% increase in its diamond resource carats at its Lulo operation, in Angola, on the back of an independent valuation. The company on Thursday told shareholders that external consultants Z Star Mineral Resource Consultants has estimated that the in-situ resource at Lulo stood at 80 400 carats.

Centaurus has another look at Jambreiro

Brazil-focused Centaurus Metals will re-assess the development options at its Jambreiro iron-ore project, which is fully permitted and licensed for a three-million tonne a year production. Centaurus on Thursday said that it would update the Jambreiro feasibility study on the back of a number of changes and marked improvements in the iron-ore market, which includes higher prices for the premium 62% iron ore, the lower availability of high-grade iron ore in the Brazilian domestic market, and greater access to open-access ports... Crusader sells Brazilian gold assets

ASX-listed Crusader Resources has signed a binding term sheet with fellow-listed Meteoric Resources to divest of its Juruena and Novo Astro gold projects, in Brazil. Under the terms of the agreement, Meteoric would pay A$3-million in cash and milestone share payments.
