Myanmar’s military has commissioned new combat aircraft, state media reports. The military is stepping up efforts to regain territory from resistance forces in the country's civil war. Photos released by the military suggest it received four jets, including two Russian-made Su-30s. State media says this is the sixth aircraft commissioning since the miliary seized power in 2021. Resistance groups blame air attacks for heavy civilian deaths. State media also says the army has retaken the town of Tagaung after a long offensive.

The U.S. military says a KC-135 refueling aircraft supporting operations against Iran crashed in western Iraq, killing four of its six crew members. The U.S. Central Command, which oversees the Middle East, said the crash followed an unspecified incident involving two aircraft in “friendly airspace,” and that the other plane landed safely. A man armed with a rifle rammed a vehicle into a major synagogue in a Detroit suburb and was fatally shot by security. That’s according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday. The person said the vehicle caught on fire after crashing into the Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield Township.
