Profile: In The Skin of the Jihadist

An undercover British journalist infiltrates the online propaganda channels of the so-called Islamic State, only to be sucked in by her recruiter.

While investigating the online ISIS recruitment techniques used to lure young European women into Syria as Jihadi brides, Amy Whittaker, a freelance journalist from London, creates a fake Facebook profile of a radicalized Muslim convert. When a professional ISIS recruiter contacts her online character, Amy comes across a unique opportunity to experience the process first hand as he sets his sights on her. But with every passing Skype call, Amy puts herself in grave danger as the border dissolves between her real and online profile.

The film is making its world premiere as part of the festival’s Panorama section, tomorrow, February 17, before heading to SXSW in March. The action takes places entirely within the computer screens of the lead characters through Skype, Facebook and other social media platforms.
