Previously obscure political commentator Bill Mitchell has become something of an anti-celebrity for his entirely unselfconscious shilling for Donald Trump. In response to evidence that Trump’s campaign is cratering, the radio host has said that “Trump’s groundgame isn’t in a computer, it’s in our hearts,” and unironically asked his followers: “Imagine polls don’t exist. Show me evidence Hillary is winning?” And yesterday, he attempted to appropriate the Bible in service of his idol:

Much has already been written on UNESCO’s pitiful resolution last week on Jerusalem and its holy sites, in particular its implicit denial of any Jewish (or, for that matter, Christian) connection to the Temple Mount. But it is what this resolution on “Occupied Palestine” affirms, rather than what it negates, that should worry us most: a paranoid conspiracy theory that holds that Jews are plotting to harm Islamic holy sites. American Pastoral, Ewan McGregor’s adaptation of Philip Roth’s novel, is easily the most successful attempt at capturing Roth’s work on screen. Which is a bit like saying that the Tenerife airport disaster of 1977 is the most successful attempt at killing 583 people by slamming two Boeings into each other on the tarmac: a distinction, sure, but not one of which anyone ought to be too proud.
