Preakness Stakes 2024: Results and payouts as Seize The Grey wins second leg of the Triple Crown

Mystik Dan's run for the Triple Crown ends with a second-place finish at Pimlico

The dream of Mystik Dan becoming the 14th horse to win the Triple Crown came to an end at Pimlico Race Course, where Seize The Grey won the 149th running of the Preakness Stakes in epic fashion.

Despite entering as the clear favorite at 2-1, the Kentucky Derby winner made a late push down the stretch to finish second, but couldn’t catch the horse trained by D. Wayne Lukas.

On the first muddy track at the Preakness in 85 years, Lukas became the oldest trainer to win a Triple Crown race at 88 years old. Seize The Grey went wire-to-wire after starting in the sixth gate to give Lukas his seventh Preakness victory.

Horse racing’s next big event is the Belmont Stakes on June 8 at Saratoga Race Course. Belmont Park, the traditional home of the final leg of the Triple Crown, is undergoing renovations, leading to the move upstate for this year’s 156th running.

Justify in 2018 remains the last Triple Crown winner.
