Forgotten £150,000-a-week Man Utd star in line for huge Ajax transfer – unless Red Devils hire his former boss

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN will be handed the chance to rejoin first club Ajax this summer — if Manchester United agree to a pay-off.

But the Danish midfielder, 32, is set to sit tight until Erik ten Hag’s future is sorted, in case his old Spurs gaffer Mauricio Pochettino comes in.

Eriksen has 12 months left on his £150,000-a-week contract but United are keen to get some of the higher earners off the books to help fund Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s planned rebuild.

Yet with no chance of players matching their Old Trafford wages elsewhere, United face using a hefty slice of the summer budget to ease them out.

United would not ask for a fee for Eriksen as long as that is factored into any agreement over the remainder of his contract.

Poch was linked with an Old Trafford switch after leaving Chelsea and Eriksen spent five years at Spurs under the Argentine.

It’s reckoned Pochettino is keen on an immediate return and could make Eriksen one of his key players once again.

The playmaker joined United in 2022 after an impressive six-month spell at Brentford.

Eriksen’s brief time in London had come after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

And his first season in Manchester saw him clock up 44 appearances in all competitions.

But the veteran failed to hit that target this term, playing 28 times after being hit by several injuries.

Eriksen was an unused sub in Saturday’s FA Cup final win over Man City.

The Red Devils triumphed 2-1 thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

The result saw United secure Europa League football too despite their eighth-place finish in the Premier League

Chelsea, who finished sixth, will now play in the Europa Conference League.

While seventh-place Newcastle have no continental football at all.
