UN cultural agency rejects plan to place Britain's Stonehenge on list of heritage sites in danger

The United Nations’ cultural agency has rejected recommendations to place Stonehenge on the list of world heritage sites in danger over concerns that Britain’s plans to build a nearby highway tunnel threaten the landscape around the prehistoric monument. Stonehenge was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986 — an honor bestowed upon sites that have special cultural or physical significance. Seifsa cites problems with proposed amendments to scrap metal trading laws

Industry body the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa (Seifsa) has criticised the proposed amendments to the Regulations to the Second-Hand Goods Act put forward for public comment by the Civilian Secretariat for the Police Service on July 12. Seifsa president Elias Monage said on July 24 that the organisation believed the proposed amendments were not proportionate or appropriate industry regulation to achieve the desired ends and minimise resultant harm.

CG Power reports Q1 standalone PAT at Rs 232.13 cr

CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd on Wednesday reported a 21 per cent hike in its standalone profit after tax of Rs 232.13 crore for the April-June 2024 quarter. The company, part of the diversified conglomerate Murugappa Group, had registered a profit after tax of Rs 192.06 crore during the corresponding quarter of last year.

Covid hits Australian Olympic water polo team

Australian chef-de-mission Anna Meares said they would resume training when well enough. Their campaign is due to start on Saturday against China. "It is confined to the water polo team. There have been five athletes in total who have tested positive," she said. Australia has a 13-person team in Paris. "They are following all the protocols that we have. KPIT Tech Q1 results: Net profit jumps 52% on higher revenue growth in FY25

Auto industry-focused KPIT Technologies on Monday reported a 52 per cent jump in its net profit to Rs 204.2 crore for the March 2024 quarter on higher revenue growth and profit margins. The Pune-headquartered company had posted a post-tax net of Rs 134 crore in the year-ago period. Its revenue from operations grew 24 per cent to Rs 1,364.6 crore from Rs 1,097.6 crore in the year-ago period, and its co-founder, chief executive and managing director Kishor Patil also sounded more certain about the guidance for the fiscal.
