The role of supplier-induced demand on the occurrence of information overload in managerial reporting environments

by Peter Gordon Rötzel

This article develops a model showing how information reporters influence information load among decision makers and generate supplier-induced information demand (SID). The intra-corporate information-providing process is an expert market with information asymmetry. I show that information overload occurs as an SID and is the result of informational overconsumption deliberately caused by the supplying reporter. My analysis highlights that the information overload depends on the specificity of information. Читать дальше...

Quantification and visualization of US racial geography using the National Racial Geography Dataset 2020

by Anna Dmowska, Tomasz F. Stepinski

Racial geography studies the spatial distributions of multiracial populations. Technical challenges arise from the fact that US Census data, upon which all US-based studies rely, is only available in the form of spatial aggregates at a few levels of granularity. This negatively affects spatial analysis and, consequently, the quantification of racial segregation, especially on a smaller length scale. A recent methodology called the Racial Landscape (RL)... Field pea leaf disease classification using a deep learning approach

by Dagne Walle Girmaw, Tsehay Wasihun Muluneh

Field peas are grown by smallholder farmers in Ethiopia for food, fodder, income, and soil fertility. However, leaf diseases such as ascochyta blight, powdery mildew, and leaf spots affect the quantity and quality of this crop as well as crop growth. Experts use visual observation to detect field pea disease. However, this approach is expensive, labor-intensive, and imprecise. Therefore, in this study, we presented a transfer learning approach... Natural convection in the cytoplasm: Theoretical predictions of buoyancy-driven flows inside a cell

by Nikhil Desai, Weida Liao, Eric Lauga

The existence of temperature gradients within eukaryotic cells has been postulated as a source of natural convection in the cytoplasm, i.e. bulk fluid motion as a result of temperature-difference-induced density gradients. Recent computations have predicted that a temperature differential of ΔT ≈ 1 K between the cell nucleus and the cell membrane could be strong enough to drive significant intracellular material transport. We use numerical computations... Читать дальше...

Navigating persuasive strategies in online health misinformation: An interview study with older adults on misinformation management

by Wei Peng, Jingbo Meng, Barikisu Issaka

Online health misinformation commonly includes persuasive strategies that can easily deceive lay people. Yet, it is not well understood how individuals respond to misinformation with persuasive strategies at the moment of exposure. This study aims to address the research gap by exploring how and why older adults fall into the persuasive trap of online health misinformation and how they manage their encounters of online health misinformation. Using a think-aloud protocol... Читать дальше...

Research and application of OPC UA-based digital twin smoke alarm calibration workshop information model

by Min Wu, Wenfeng Ying

Aiming at the problems of data integration and information sharing in the calibration workshop of smoke alarm, combining OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) and digital twin technology, the OPC UA based digital twin smoke alarm calibration workshop information network framework is proposed. Using OPC UA information modeling technology, a digital workshop information model for smoke alarm calibration was constructed, and the static attribute set, process attribute set... Application of machine learning in in vitro propagation of endemic Lilium akkusianum R. Gämperle

by Mehmet Tütüncü

A successful regeneration protocol was developed for micropropagation of Lilium akkusianum R. Gämperle, an endemic species of Türkiye, from scale explants. The study also aimed to evaluate the effects of Meta-Topolin (mT) and N6-Benzyladenine (BA) on in vitro regeneration. The Murashige and Skoog medium (MS) supplemented with different levels of α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA)/BA and NAA/mT were used for culture initiation in the darkness. The highest callus rates were observed... Читать дальше...

A Bayesian network for modelling the Lady tasting tea experiment

by Gang Xie

A cup of tea can be made in one of the two ways: the milk or the tea infusion was first added to the cup. The Lady Tasting Tea experiment consists in mixing eight cups of tea, four in one way and four in the other, and presenting them to the Lady for judgment in a random order. This short article presents a Bayesian Network (BN) for modelling the Lady Tasting Tea experiment that provides a comprehensive perspective in inferential analysis of all the data samples possibly generated from the experiment. Modulation of Staphylococcus aureus gene expression during proliferation in platelet concentrates with focus on virulence and platelet functionality

by Basit Yousuf, Roya Pasha, Nicolas Pineault, Sandra Ramirez-Arcos

Staphylococcus aureus is a well-documented bacterial contaminant in platelet concentrates (PCs), a blood component used to treat patients with platelet deficiencies. This bacterium can evade routine PC culture screening and cause septic transfusion reactions. Here, we investigated the gene expression modulation within the PC niche versus trypticase soy media (TSB) of S. aureus CBS2016-05, a strain isolated from a septic reaction... Читать дальше...
