Backroom negotiations for Russia prisoner swap ‘colossal’

The negotiations that were held behind the curtain between the US, western allies and Russia to secure the release of two dozen individuals were “colossal”, FRANCE 24 Chief Foreign Editor Rob Parsons said in an analysis. Negotiators in backchannel talks at one point explored an exchange involving Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, but after his death in February ultimately stitched together a deal that required significant concessions from European allies, including the release of a Russian assassin.

Global air passenger demand continued to grow in June

Total global air passenger traffic increased by 9.1%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in June, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reported. IATA was the global representative body for the airline industry. International air passenger demand jumped 12.3% while domestic passenger demand was up by 4.3%. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has reportedly launched two separate probes into Nvidia regarding antitrust concerns about the computing giant’s AI-focused business dealings. The first investigation, reported by Politico, will see the DOJ examine Nvidia’s buyout of Run:ai, while the second, as reported by The Information, will assess if Nvidia abused its dominance in AI chips to discourage customers from using competing products.
