Canada completes negotiations to use US space launch technology, expertise and data

The Canadian government says it has completed negotiations with the United States on an agreement that would allow the use of U.S. space launch technology, expertise and data for space launches in Canada. The agreement, which is yet to be signed, will establish the legal and technical safeguards needed, while ensuring the proper handling of sensitive technology, the government said Friday in a news release. Acting Secret Service head says warning about would-be Trump assassin never reached agents

Ronald Rowe, the acting director of the Secret Service, said a warning about a gunman just before the attempted assassination of former President Trump didn't reach his agents because they were not able to hear radio communications from local police. Rowe also blamed the failure on separate command posts used by police and the Secret Service. NBC News' Julia Ainsley reports.

Justice Dept. says it's committed to sharing info about foreign election threats with tech companies

The Justice Department is committed to sharing with social media companies information that it picks up about efforts by foreign governments to influence this year’s elections. That's according to a speech given Friday by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco to a lawyers’ conference. Monaco said that though it's ultimately up to companies to decide what if any action to take, the department will continue to provide them with “actionable intelligence” so they can make decisions about foreign threats on their platforms. Police search huge NYC migrant shelter for 'dangerous contraband' as residents wait in summer heat

Police have searched New York City’s largest asylum-seeker shelter for hours. They say they are looking for any “dangerous contraband” among the 3,000 residents. Many waited outside on a sweltering summer Friday. One resident says police arrived with dogs, though he isn't sure what the animals were brought to sniff for.
