US hands over its last military base in Niger to the ruling junta

The US has handed over its last military base in Niger, Airbase 201, to local authorities after withdrawing troops from Airbase 101 in Niamey. The US has until September 15 to leave the Sahel country, following an agreement with Nigerien authorities. About two dozen American soldiers remain in Niger for administrative duties.
