Republicans and Trump only have one closing strategy—chaos

As Election Day dawns, the GOP continues to pursue lawsuits focused on keeping people from voting or, if they manage to vote, making sure those votes aren’t counted. It’s the only strategy they have available as their candidate melts down when his microphone makes him sad, threatens former Rep. Liz Cheney with violent imagery, and declares he should never have left the White House in 2021. So the GOP is going to keep doing what it has been doing since Trump’s 2020 loss: using the legal system to make voting harder and more chaotic. Читать дальше...

The Guy Who Tried To Mansplain The Handmaid’s Tale To Margaret Atwood

Only a Trumper would try to explain to the author that her book was actually about Islam and not Christianity, and therefore presumably could never happen here. I don't know that for certain as he's since deleted his tweet after Ben Phillips brought it to the attention of other Twitter users, getting millions of views and about 300,000 likes, and engendering enormous ridicule.

Globular cluster Gran 5 hosts two stellar populations, study finds

Using the Gemini-South telescope, astronomers have performed high-resolution near-infrared spectroscopy of stars in a Galactic globular cluster known as Gran 5. They found that this cluster harbors two stellar populations with different metallicities. The finding was reported in a paper published October 28 on the pre-print server arXiv.

Spraying rice with zinc oxide nanoparticles protects yields during heat waves, study finds

A small team of horticulturists in China and the U.S. has found that spraying rice plants with a zinc oxide nanoparticle solution helps them better handle the stress of a heat wave. In their study, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the group conducted experiments involving spraying rice plants in a heated greenhouse.

House of Facades / Marcos Bertoldi Arquitetos

In a seaside condominium, the rectangular and flat lot of 520 sq m is surrounded by conventional two-story houses with attic. Countless windows and openings brought a big privacy issue for this 490 sq m residence. Therefore, the planned program was placed between two windowless and aerial walls, with travertine cladding, supported by columns, and positioned within the legal boundaries of the property. These aerial walls configure the side facades of the building, ensuring the privacy of the internal spaces from the nearest neighbors. Читать дальше...

Offset curves: An application in road simulation

by Aqsa Rasheed, Uzma Bashir

Routable Digital Maps represent a recent advancement driven by the growth of Intelligent Transportation System applications. Efforts have been made to develop and utilize maps within computer systems that can autonomously identify optimal routes. Typically, online map visualizations lack essential information such as traffic patterns, construction zones, or lane counts, which are crucial for designing accurate and realistic routes. This research introduces a route... Читать дальше...
