FTC Takes Action Against Companies Selling Sensitive Location Data

The FTC is issuing orders limiting how companies can collect and sell consumers' location data. Two companies — Mobilewalla and Gravy Analytics Inc. (and its subsidiary Venntel) — have been found in violation of the law. Both companies gained access to consumers' location data via apps and/or ads on their mobile devices. They then correlated that data with sensitive locations such as churches, medical facilities, and even political protests. The change around offside players at the kick is a good one. I'd also like a rule whereby players in front of the kicker only need to be 10m away from where the ball bounces - after that play on.

Eating high-processed foods impacts muscle quality, study finds

A diet high in ultra-processed foods is associated with higher amounts of fat stored inside thigh muscles, regardless of the amount of calories consumed or level of physical activity, according to a new study. Higher amounts of intramuscular fat in the thigh could also increase the risk for knee osteoarthritis.

A research team has investigated the importance of limestone quarries for wild bee conservation. Diverse landscapes with good connectivity between quarries and calcareous grasslands proved to be particularly valuable. Calcareous grasslands -- meaning grasslands on chalk or limestone soils -- are exceptionally rich in plant and animal species, making them valuable ecosystems. Quarries with a lot of shrub encroachment, on the other hand, had a lower species diversity. Endangered bee species were more common in large quarries.

Research study shows the cost-effectiveness of AI-enhanced heart failure screening

Earlier research showed that primary care clinicians using AI-ECG tools identified more unknown cases of a weak heart pump, also called low ejection fraction, than without AI. New study findings suggest that this type of screening is also cost-effective in the long term, especially in outpatient settings.
