The personal envoy of the UN Secretary General, Maria Angela Holguin will arrive on Tuesday evening in Cyprus, where she will stay until May 14. This will be her third mission to the island, as she looks for common ground between parties, in the context of efforts to solve the Cyprus problem.

Holguin will meet on Wednesday with President Nikos Christodoulides at the Presidential Palace at 10am, and with Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, at noon in the north.

As announced by the UN last week, during her visit she will meet a wide range of other interlocutors, businesspeople and members of civil society.

Prior to her visit, Holguin met with European Union officials in Brussels and with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara.

In the wake of Holguin’s visit, Christodoulides expressed hopes that there will be developments that allow for optimism about the resumption of talks.

In his Easter message, the president reiterated that despite the challenges posed by the Turkish side, his priority is the resumption of substantive negotiations on the basis of the agreed UN framework.
