Supreme Court avoids major ruling in birth control dispute

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court is ridding itself of a knotty dispute between faith-based groups and the Obama administration over birth control. The court is asking lower courts to take another look at the issue in a search for a compromise.

Strong quake shakes eastern Japan; no tsunami danger

TOKYO — A strong earthquake shook Tokyo and other cities in eastern Japan on Monday, but officials said there is no danger of a tsunami. The Meteorological Agency said the earthquake had an initial magnitude of 5.6 and was centered in southern Ibaraki prefecture, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of Tokyo.
