For six-year-old Adelina, it's much simpler: first you find a horse, then you get the meat, and then you cook the beshbarmak. This was how the young girl explained the preparation of the national dish to her relatives in Saint Petersburg several years ago—and now the video is trending online once again.
How it all began
The video was filmed back in 2024 when Adelina and her mother, Victoria Ten, traveled to Saint Petersburg to visit relatives.
They brought meat from Kazakhstan with them to prepare beshbarmak for New Year's Eve. While her mother was busy cooking, six-year-old Adelina decided to explain the process to her Russian cousins herself.
"We need to get a horse somewhere. Then we kill the horse and we have meat. The horse is already boiling, so we'll have beshbarmak soon," Adelina tells her young brothers.

About the family
Adelina's mother, Victoria Ten, explained that several cultures intersect in their family: the father is Korean, while Victoria herself is of mixed Polish and Kazakh heritage.
"In our multinational family, we cook a variety of dishes. We make beshbarmak often and always invite guests over," she shared.
Victoria mentioned that the family regularly visits Russia, and they always bring gifts and treats from Kazakhstan.
"We always bring meat and chocolate from Kazakhstan to Russia; my brother really misses our food. That's why, even in Russia, a large group of relatives and friends gathers around the dastarkhan," she noted.
For the Ten family, cooking beshbarmak is more than just a meal; it is a tradition they strive to pass on to their children.
"We treat traditions with great care. My children had their 'kyrkynan shygaru' (40-day ceremony), and for their first birthdays, we performed the 'tusau kesu' (cutting the fetters) ritual according to all customs. I believe children should know and honor our people's traditions. This can only be instilled through one's own example," Victoria shared.
