Mark Mobius: Duterte has the background to deliver

While the local business community has initially dismissed the economic plans outlined by the transition team of presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte, foreign investors are taking notice of the tough-talking Davao City mayor’s achievements. Emerging markets investment guru Joseph Mark Mobius has posted four tweets on Duterte and the Philippines. In his first tweet on May 12, 2016, Mobius shared his insight on the Philippine electorate: “Clearly, [the] people of the Philippines would like to see a strong, anti-corruption government. We think Duterte has the background to deliver.” This is followed by: “With Rodrigo Duterte’s apparent presidential victory in the #Philippines, we’re interested to see what initiatives he proposes. #investing” Clearly, Mobius is keen on the Davao City mayor’s plans for the business and investment sector.
