Is it possible to change the IIN in Kazakhstan: response from the Ministry of Internal Affairs

Tengrinews.kz — Information has surfaced on social media claiming that Kazakhstani citizens can allegedly change their Individual Identification Number (IIN). The Ministry of Internal Affairs has commented on these reports.
The debate was sparked by social media post referring to a post previously published on Threads. The author claimed that the IIN could be changed under certain circumstances.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has refuted this information.

"Citizens have the right to change their full name and other personal data by applying to the authorized bodies in accordance with legislative requirements," the department stated.

However, the Ministry emphasized that changing personal data does not mean changing the Individual Identification Number.
"An IIN is assigned once and cannot be changed," the ministry clarified.
It should be noted that the IIN is a unique 12-digit combination. It is generated automatically and is based on the principles of uniqueness and immutability. According to current rules, once an IIN is initially generated, it is not subject to modification or regeneration.
Previously, social media users in Kazakhstan were surprised by an ID card with an expiration date of 2051. Users debated whether such a document needs to be replaced and if it would cause issues at public service centers or banks.
