Packers place QB Aaron Rodgers on injured reserve

The Green Bay Packers placed Aaron Rodgers on injured reserve Friday after the quarterback had surgery on his broken collarbone.

Rodgers would be is eligible to play after eight weeks, but coach Mike McCarthy has said the two-time NFL MVP might miss the rest of the season.

“Everything went very well is my understanding talking with” team doctor Pat McKenzie on Friday morning, “and he’s recovering,” McCarthy said of Rodgers.

The procedure on Rodgers was done Thursday. He was hurt in the first quarter in a 23-10 loss last weekend to Minnesota after a hit by Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr.

Barr said Friday he did not intend to “take out” Rodgers.
