Palin's re-emergence underscores GOP split

While she's hardly the conservative kingmaker she once was, Palin remains a favorite of the tea party insurgency, and her endorsement of Donald Trump for the 2016 GOP nomination gives him an added boost of conservative, anti-establishment credibility. [...] the GOP system is cracking, leaving some in the establishment feeling they would be the outsiders in a party helmed by Trump — or by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a frequent tormentor of Republican leaders who is a strong contender for the nomination. Читать дальше...

Movie of the Week: "Goodbye Charlie"

Vincente Minnelli directed two of the best movies ever made on the subject of Hollywood filmmaking—“The Bad and the Beautiful” and “Two Weeks in Another Town.” But he made a third, “Goodbye Charlie,” from 1964 (which I discuss in this clip), which is, in a way, the most daring and original of them all. Review: U.S. Remake Of French Cult Horror Film 'Martyrs'

“Martyrs” is only eighty minutes long, sans credits, yet still it manages to cram four bad horror films into its meager runtime. A remake of 2008’s French torture porn/cult horror flick with the same title, the original “Martyrs” was by no means a masterpiece, but managed to be extremely effective during its third act, thanks mainly to writer/director Pascal Laugier’s staunch dedication to medieval-level gruesomeness mixed with an intensely grim existential hopelessness. By easing up on the... Читать дальше...

Yet for all of the sound and fury of the markets, many oil companies from Exxon to Devon actually remain in relatively good shape even if this quarter’s earnings will be pretty rough.

That is not universally the case though – some firms are actually very risky and in the current market investors would be wise to stay away. Читать дальше...

Last run for current SAT this week; new one debuts in March

WASHINGTON (AP) — The current version of the SAT college entrance exam has its final run this weekend, when hundreds of thousands of students nationwide will sit, squirm or stress through the nearly four-hour reading, writing and math test. Alex said his college adviser was worried about students being "guinea pigs" for the new SAT that rolls out March 5 and told him to focus on Saturday's exam. Everything that's in the redesigned SAT is knowledge and skills that kids are learning in classrooms every single day. Читать дальше...
