Apple files $1 billion suit against chip supplier Qualcomm

Apple Inc filed a $1 billion lawsuit against supplier Qualcomm Inc on Friday, following a U.S. government lawsuit which accused the chip maker of using anti-competitive tactics to maintain its monopoly of a key semiconductor in mobile phones. Qualcomm is a major supplier to both Apple and Samsung for "modem" chips that help phones connect to wireless networks. Together the two accounted for 40 percent of Qualcomm's $23.5 billion in revenue in its most recent fiscal year.

Order blocking education law extended until June trial

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A new North Carolina law transferring power away from the State Board of Education to the elected state superintendent will remain blocked for several additional months before a trial this summer over its constitutionality. WRAL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2kbxyh7 ) a June 29 trial date came about as three trial judges held a scheduling hearing Friday about the lawsuit the board filed against the state.

Prosecutor pushing for prison time for 'Dance Moms' star in bankruptcy fraud case

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A prosecutor on Friday urged a federal judge to sentence "Dance Moms" star Abby Lee Miller to prison instead of probation for bankruptcy fraud.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Melucci called witnesses to buttress his contention that the reality TV show star tried to avoid repaying hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt by hiding about $775,000 in income from a bankruptcy court.
