Markets Right Now: Stock indexes are mixed at midday

The latest on developments in financial markets (All times local): Stock indexes were mixed in midday trading on Wall Street as gains for technology and health care companies were outweighed by losses in several other sectors. Stocks are opening slightly higher on Wall Street, led by gains in health care and technology companies. Software company Red Hat rose 8.5 percent in the first few minutes of trading Wednesday.

Hundreds visit Y-12 as part of Secret City Festival

More than 350 people from around the country visited the Y-12 National Security Complex earlier this month as part of the Secret City Festival. Constructed during World War II, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, was a “secret city” established in 1942 as a production site for the Manhattan Project.

This adorable baby turtle blob is bringing hope to Southeast Asia

The months-old blob seen above is an Asian giant softshell turtle. Scientists long thought this species was extinct in the Cambodian portion of the Mekong River — until they discovered some stragglers in the early 2000s.
