Hoverboard may be cause of Santa Rosa fire that killed 2 dogs

A fire that ripped through a Santa Rosa house on Tuesday, killing two dogs and causing up to $250,000 in damage, may have been sparked by an unattended hoverboard that was being charged, fire officials said Wednesday.

Fire investigators found the remnants of the two-wheeled, lithium-ion battery-powered hoverboard — a model A3 Original Transboard — plugged into a wall socket in a bedroom where the fire started, officials said.

While an exact cause of the fire has not been pinned down, fire officials noted that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission “is actively investigating hoverboard fires across the country, and we have contacted them regarding this incident.”
