Welcome gift for 49ers’ Chip Kelly: big CFL wideout
On the day he was formally introduced as the head coach, Chip Kelly received a welcome-to-the-49ers gift: a potential offensive weapon.
Rogers, 24, led the CFL with 1,448 receiving yards, tied for the league lead in receiving touchdowns (10) and was third in receptions (87) last season with the Calgary Stampeders.
Rogers’ $300,000 in guaranteed money is the most for a CFL player since Miami defensive end Cameron Wake received a $1 million signing bonus in 2009.
The 49ers also gave running back Jarryd Hayne, a former Australian rugby league star, $100,000 in guaranteed base sslary last year.
Kelly has said he wants wide receivers that possess size, which allows them fight off physical man-to-man coverage.
