iMessage vulnerability could undermine encryption, researchers find

Johns Hopkins University security researchers discovered a method to decode encrypted photos or videos sent using Apple’s iMessage, according to The Washington Post.

On Monday, Apple released an update to its operating system for smartphones and tablets, iOS, which fixed this particular vulnerability.

The company also unveiled a new, smaller iPhone at a press event at its headquarters.

By targeting holdouts who have been using older, smaller iPhones, which are more likely to be running older software than newly purchased phones, Apple may be hoping to bring that number even higher and make its users less vulnerable to bugs like the newly discovered iMessage flaw.
