More promotion for police force as 22 AIGs, 29 deputy commissioners emerge

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 22 Commissioners of Police (CP), to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIG).
The promotion of 29 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of Commissioners of Police was also endorsed by the commission.

This was contained in a statement issued by the head, press and public relations of the commission Ikechukwu Ani, in Abuja on Wednesday, July 20.
Ani said that the affected promotions were based on the recommendation of availability of vacancies in the AIG and CP cadres of the force occasioned by the recent Force reorganisation.
The 29 commissioners were screened by a panel headed by the chairman of the commission, Mike Okiro, and other members of the Commission.
The spokesman said the commission also considered the issue of seniority and diligence to duty of the Officers.
“Majority of the new AIGs had already been posted to zonal commands and other police formations while nine of the CPs had been posted as command CPs,“he said.

The new promotions are coming a few days after the commission approved the promotion of 18 new Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and 37 new Commissioners of Police (CPs).
The PSC also approved the postings with four other AIGs, while among the new CPs, 12 are to be in charge of the 12 police zonal commands, while the remaining 10 will head police special formations such as operations, training, police academy, info-tech, investment, among others.
