No. 3 Johanna Konta ousts Julia Boserup at Stanford

Johanna Konta won handily over Julia Boserup in second-round play at the Bank of the West Classic at Stanford on Wednesday afternoon.

The third-seeded Briton won the first set 6-3, then cruised to a 6-1 victory in the second.

Doi next plays the winner of Thursday’s match between second-seeded Dominika Cibulkova and Urszula Radwanska.

Harrison converted only three of 22 break points, but that was enough to set up a match against fifth-seeded Steve Johnson next.

In a matchup featuring two of the three teens in the ATP’s top 100, seventh-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany saved all five break points he faced and overwhelmed Taylor Fritz of the U.S. 6-4, 6-2.

In women’s play, wild-card entry Jessica Pegula defeated Christina McHale 7-5, 6-2 in an all-American match.

Pegula, whose parents own the NFL’s Buffalo Bills and NHL’s Buffalo Sabres, reached the quarterfinals of a WTA tournament for the first time.
