Record start to 2026 brings prospect of $5 000 gold into view

Gold and silver's upward run has reignited, with bullion topping $4 600 an ounce for the first time and big brokerages predicting $5 000 as a range of factors intensify, boosting the metal's safe-haven cachet. Spot gold traded as high as $4 629.94 per ounce on Monday, while silver climbed to a record of $86.22/oz in the same session.

Thor Explorations generates record quarterly revenue

TSX-V- and Aim-listed Thor Explorations produced 23 719 oz of gold in the quarter ended December 31, 2025, bringing its full-year total to 91 910 oz, from the Segilola mine, in Nigeria. The company announced a special dividend payment of C$0.015 apiece for the fourth quarter of the year, in addition to the standard C$0.0125 dividend, which brings the total payable dividend in the period to C$0.0275 apiece.

Ivanhoe rapidly scaling up output at Platreef amid ‘supercycle’ for prices

TSX-listed Ivanhoe Mines says development of its Platreef mine, in South Africa, is rapidly advancing after the first production of concentrate was achieved in November last year. The company advises that the ramp up of the Phase 1 concentrator on site is advancing on schedule, with the first sale of concentrate having been completed.

Codelco expects to lift copper output by 10 000 t this year

Chilean State-run miner Codelco is expected to produce 1.344-million metric tons of copper in 2026, up about 10 000 tons from last year, Chairman Maximo Pacheco said on Monday. Speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, Pacheco said that Codelco, the world's largest copper producer, achieved copper output of 1.33-million tons in 2025. It also produced 100 000 tons in partnerships with other companies.

British Columbia seeks closer ties on trade and resources with India

British Columbia is seeking to deepen its commercial ties with India in sectors including liquefied natural gas, critical minerals, lumber and technology, the Canadian province's Premier David Eby said on Monday at the start of a six-day Indian visit. Both countries are seeking to rebuild trade ties after a two-year freeze and to diversify their supply chains in reaction to US tariffs.
