Illegal mining worth R7bn a year – PwC

The value of illegal mining and dealing of metals and diamonds in South Africa is estimated to be more than R7-billion a year, says PwC. In its latest edition of SA Mine, the professional services firm equates this to revenue generated from 430 000 oz of gold at the current market price.

Danakali CEO resigns; Colluli offtake agreement signed

Potash developer Danakali has reported the resignation of CEO Danny Goeman. Goeman has accepted an offer from a leading Perth-based mining company and is expected to leave Danakali on August 3. He joined Danakali in 2016 as head of marketing, before assuming the role of CEO in 2017.

Yendon DFS on the cards after positive results

A prefeasibility study (PFS) into the Yendon alumina project, in Victoria, has estimated that the project would require a capital investment of A$271-million to support an annual production of 8 000 t of high purity alumina. ASX-listed Hill End Gold on Thursday reported that the project was expected to have a net present value of A$692-million and an internal rate of return of 34%, with average annual earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization estimated at A$133-million based on a forecast sales price of A$25 200/t.
