Faith Ringgold dead: Pioneering Black artist and author was 93

Chef Hans Aeschbacher operated at the Chicago nexus of sports, food and fame.

As executive chef at the Chicago Stadium and the United Center in the early 1990s, he cooked for Bulls and Blackhawks players and their families, as well as team owners.

He was like family to the late Blackhawks owner Bill Wirtz.

Michael Jordan, Chris Chelios and other athletes called him "Chef" or "Cheffy."

Woman killed, teen wounded in Washington Heights shooting

A woman is dead and a teenage boy wounded after they were shot during an argument Saturday night in the Washington Heights neighborhood.

The woman, 21, was in a car with the 15-year-old in the 9300 block of South Bishop Street when a person she knew pulled up in a silver sedan and began arguing with them, Chicago police said.

Boy, 9, shot in ankle in North Lawndale

Sun-Times file

A 9-year-old boy shot in the ankle Saturday night in North Lawndale.

He was playing on a sidewalk about 10 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Sawyer Avenue when someone in the area fired shots and he was struck in his right ankle, according to Chicago police.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

No arrests were immediately reported.

2 men fatally shot half-mile apart in Auburn Gresham

Two men were fatally shot within minutes of each other about a half-mile apart Saturday in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

The first shooting happened about 5:15 p.m, Chicago police said. Officers found the 22-year-old man lying on the street in the 7700 block of South Carpenter Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
