Chicago cop takes stand at murder trial, claims girlfriend accidentally shot herself during struggle over gun

A Chicago police officer on trial for the murder of the mother of his child testified Friday that his girlfriend accidentally shot herself as he tried to grab a gun from her during an argument over child support.

Pierre Tyler, 32, admitted to making a “series of stupid, bad decisions” in a half-hearted attempt to cover up the fact he had been at the scene.

Trucks kept backing into Chicago man's house. Now, City Hall is after him to repair the damage.

Cars pass by Robert Christie’s home in the 4800 block of West Ainslie Street on the Northwest Side. Trucks repeatedly have backed into his property and caused damage as they try to back away from a low underpass just south of his home. He wants City Hall to do more to protect his home, but he recently was cited by the city for failing to fix the damage the trucks had left. Now, he says, he’s considering selling.

Ben Weese dead: Preservationist and rebel architect was 94

Architect Ben Weese preserved, created and rebelled.

He was part of a small group of architects, which included his brother, Harry Weese, who came together to rescue the Glessner House from an uncertain fate in 1965 when the historic home at 1800 S. Prairie Ave. went up for sale.

Why the Bears believe their new stadium plan will succeed on the lakefront where George Lucas failed

In 2014, filmmaker George Lucas eyed land south of Soldier Field for his Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. After some public derision of the initial drawings, a revised design was unveiled the next year (rendering at left). Amid a legal challenge from Friends of the Parks, Lucas gave up and is building the museum in Los Angeles. Now, at the same site, the Chicago Bears want to build a new domed stadium. They released renderings (right) of the proposal in April.

Gunfight in Gage Park leaves 3 shot including 14-year-old boy critically wounded

A 14-year-old boy was critically wounded during an exchange of gunfire that also left two men injured Thursday night in the Gage Park neighborhood.

Shortly after 9 p.m. police were called to the 3200 block of East 55th Street where they found the boy and two men, 39 and 27, shot, police said.

Police said a preliminary investigation found the boy and the 39-year old were exchanging gunfire with the 27-year-old.
