Uranium developer Toro Energy has raised A$3.8-million through a share purchase plan. The company on Friday said that it will issue more than 153.2-million shares.

The new head of the EPA is a former Senate staffer who has worked behind the scenes to quash climate change legislation and promote coal. Andrew Wheeler, 53, now the Environmental Protection Agency’s No. 2 official, will take over Monday as acting administrator following the resignation of Scott Pruitt. Wheeler could bring a quiet effectiveness to the top job that some environmentalists say they fear will make him a more formidable foe than Pruitt.

Two South American mining companies, Minera San Cristóbal and Minsur, have joined the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM). ICMM CEO Tom Butler notes that both companies have earned their membership of ICMM by complying with the council’s “rigorous” admission procedure, adding that the companies “will bring valuable insight to our membership from their unique perspectives”.

South African earthmoving equipment manufacturer and supplier Bell Equipment is expanding its partnership with Japanese excavator specialist Kobelco Construction Machinery (Kobelco) with a range of three mini excavator models and three larger models launched in April. Bell is the exclusive distributor and support service provider for the Kobelco range of excavators in Southern Africa.

Heavy machinery manufacturer SANY will launch the new 75 t SY750 excavator this month for the local mining industry, having first launched the excavator onto the global market in 2017. Mining equipment and services provider Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology has delivered and commissioned the first DR461i, now identified as the DR412i rotary blast hole drill, to the African continent.  According to Sandvik, the DR412i blast-hole drill improves productivity while returning fuel efficiency and improved availability compared with its predecessors.

Global mining and construction equipment manufacturer Caterpillar has released the new Cat 814K – a wheel dozer that delivers “operating comfort, efficiency and serviceability advancements”. The wheel dozer’s features include a new, sound-suppressed cab, an efficient power unit and transmission drive, as well as a centralised service station configuration to drive machine uptime and operator productivity to “new levels”.

As part of its coordinated international strategy, minerals processing specialist Multotec is establishing a joint venture (JV) in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, which will enhance its presence in the South American region, says Multotec screening media VP Roy Roche. He tells Mining Weekly that the company is engaged in negotiations with industrial equipment supplier PUR to move from the current agent agreement to a formal JV and a contract will be in place by the end of this month.
