Glencore closing in on oil deal, transacting with Eskom

The local downstream oil investments of diversified mining and marketing company Glencore are expected to be concluded in the near future. Bauba signs chrome offtake agreement

JSE-listed Bauba Platinum has signed a chromite ore commodity purchase contract with Gerald Metals and Pelagic Resources for chrome ore run-of-mine (RoM) produced at its Moeijelijk mine, in Limpopo. This agreement is underpinned by a $5-million prepayment, which represents a part prepayment on 240 000 t of RoM chrome ore to be supplied.

ABM to acquire Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire base metals assets

Aim-listed African Battery Metals (ABM) has conditionally agreed to acquire Cobalt Blue Holdings (CBH) and Regent Resources Interests Corporation (RRIC), which hold highly prospective base metals exploration assets in Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire, respectively. CBH holds four prospecting licences and two prospecting licence applications, in Cameroon, close to one of the largest undeveloped cobalt reserves in the world.

Fortuna’s Lindero project still set for start of commercial operations in Q3 2019

Construction of Fortuna Silver Mines’ Lindero gold project, in Argentina, has been delayed slightly, but the Canadian miner still expects commercial operations to start during the third quarter of 2019. Fortuna president, CEO and director Jorge Ganoza on Tuesday noted that delays in the building and expansion of the camp at the site have been a limiting factor for commencing certain contracts, which has compressed the company’s timeline for the planned start of commercial operations from early to late in the third quarter.

Alcoa's W.Australia workers walk out over labour agreement - union

Alcoa workers in Western Australia have walked out indefinitely over an enterprise agreement dispute with the aluminium maker, the Australian Workers' Union (AWU) said on Wednesday. The strike comes after Alcoa applied to Australia's workplace regulator to terminate its current agreement, affecting around 1 500 of its 1 600 workers at its three alumina refineries and two bauxite mines in the state, the union said.

ALCORE gets global licence for technology

ASX-listed Australian Bauxite has told shareholders that its ALCORE subsidiary would have the global licence rights for bauxite refining using the ALCORE technology. The global licence will allow ALCORE to build multiple plants in any location to meet the growing demand for aluminium fluoride (AIF3) and associated co-products as increased aluminium smelter production and the use of AIF3 in lithium-ion batteries increases demand for AIF3.

Glencore darts ahead of diversified rivals

The strength of the business model and commodity mix of mining and marketing company Glencore has been demonstrated once again by sharp increases in earnings and net income in the six months to June 30. The earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) of the 146 000-employee group rose 23% to $8.3-billion and net income was 13% higher, buoyed by impressive mine cost and margin performance.
