Aldi plans to add 800 of its discount grocery stores across the U.S. in a five-year expansion plan as it looks to capitalize on cost-conscious Americans feeling the pinch at grocery stores.

The company, based in Batavia, just west of Chicago, will invest more than $9 billion into its national expansion.

NanoGraf, maker of advanced lithium-ion batteries for the U.S. military, plans to open a sprawling new manufacturing and research facility in the West Loop.

The company announced Thursday that it inked a deal to lease a 67,850-square-foot building at 455 N. Ashland Ave. and expects to create 60 jobs.
